Dear members,  we have just finalised the date and location for this years final game of the year – our Winter Warmer.

It will be held on Thursday 25th November at the new Basingstoke Golf club – that we all know as Dummer Golf club from previous seasons.

We need someone to organise this event.  Please contact Bill Quain if you are willing to do this.  Thank you.

Please ink the date in your diaries and the Winter Warmer event will be announced following our next game at Royal Winchester on 3rd November. → More...

BGS 2020 Financial Report and Accounts

Dear Members of BGS,

I attach the Financial Report for last year.  This will be discussed within my talk at the upcoming AGM at Pine Ridge Golf Club on 19th May.  If you are coming to the AGM then I suggest that you print this or carry an electronic version with you.

Useful BGS Trophies

Dear all,  there has been some discussion about how useful our Trophies are.  Dust gatherers or useful?

I demonstrate here the most useful trophy that BGS awards.  The Autumn Ice Bucket awarded to the best high handicaper..

In this case, I was celebrating my 70th Birthday a couple of weeks ago.  It will be used again for Ruth’s birthday on Wednesday, Christmas on Friday and New Year next week.  Then it will probably gather dust until my family gets together when Lockdown rules ease. → More...

New Handicap System

Royal St George’s on the Kent coast will have one of the higher rankings on the new World Handicap System

PN Comment – I spent much of my youth fishing on this beach!  We also entered the course (through the fence) during the first recent Open to see a hole in one early one evening.  Never played it – but I have played Princes next door several times including with my brothers father-in-law who was the Pro for many years.

Golf’s authorities are responding to renewed lockdown on the day handicap procedures change for hundreds of thousands of the UK’s recreational players amid fears of “teething problems” with the new system. → More...

2020 Jubilee Cup – 2nd September

It is looking likely that we will need to find a team of 8 intrepid BGS golfers to take on our rivals (or is neighbours) of Surrey & Sussex, Hursley and North Harbour in the annual 4-way golf match.

Unlike previous years, we do not have a playing track record for our members this year to select the most inform team eg. Those at the top of our Champions Cup.

Therefore, we are looking for willing volunteers to offer to play in our team at Pine Ridge on Wednesday 2nd September.  → More...
